Trump Says He's Brought 'Profound Change' to Washington

Regardless of how critics are saying he stacks up, President Donald Trump seems pleased as punch about his progress in office so far.

The White House says the president intends to sign an executive order Saturday that will direct the Commerce Department and the US trade representative to conduct a comprehensive study of the nation's trade agreements.

The goal is to determine whether America is being treated fairly by its trading partners and the 164-nation World Trade Organization.

In his first 100 days in office, Trump signed more executive orders than any president in the last 72 years, dating all the way back to Truman.

This, along with the successful confirmation of Justice Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court, has offered long-awaited victories for the pro-life movement.

On Syria, Priebus said he said sees a "Trump Doctrine" coming into focus: a combination of putting America first but not sitting around while world injustices, such as the Syrian government's alleged use of chemical weapons, go unanswered.

(How on earth it was possible that after seven years of opposing Obamacare the Republican leadership could not put forth a bill that was popular enough among its own members to pass remains the central mystery of Trump's first hundred days.) The political facts of life remain the same: if the Republicans were as unified in support of something as the Democrats are in opposition, a bill could pass in both chambers. But speaking to supporters Saturday night in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the president derided the news media and accused them of "fake news".

Trump will trade the pressures of his office for an adoring crowd Saturday in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

USA and Philippine officials said Trump's calls and invitations to several Asian allies including Duterte were aimed at discussing the crisis over North Korea's nuclear threats.

Under a relentless spotlight since stunning the world in November with a victory over his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, the 45th U.S. president has seen his bid to tear up his predecessor's landmark health-care reforms founder in Congress, where many of his other legislative priorities have also run up against cold political gamesmanship.

Like Bush, Trump has resisted the 100-day mark.

A failed effort to overhaul President Barack Obama's health care law behind him, Trump is turning to what he's billed as the nation's biggest tax cut. It apparently falls short of Reagan's in 1981, and tax experts are skeptical that the plan would pay for itself, as Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has claimed.

Experts have cast doubt on Mnuchin's claim of the Trump plan representing the largest tax cut in US history, pointing to the 1981 tax cuts under President Ronald Reagan and the extension of the Bush tax cuts under President Barack Obama in 2010.

But taking a swipe at Trump for his invitation to Duterte, Democratic U.S. Senator Chris Murphy tweeted: "We are watching in real time as the American human rights bully pulpit disintegrates into ash".

But his most high-profile order, a temporary ban on citizens from several Muslim-majority countries entering the United States, was twice blocked in USA courts. Polls show that Americans feel slightly better about his job performance on that subject than his job performance overall.

Earlier this week, Trump announced his intention to work to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement. "In just fourteen weeks, my administration has brought profound change to Washington".
