WaPost: Trump revealed classified information to Russian Federation during recent meeting

Trump's administration allegedly called the CIA and the National Security Agency after the president's meeting with Lavrov and Kislayk to mitigate the spread of the information, according to the Post. "Sharing intelligence with an adversary risks jeopardizing counterterrorism cooperation with partners and undermines US national security". The news that Trump revealed highly classified information to Russian officials in a meeting last week prompted another round of weird scenes, just days after Trump's decision to fire Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey sent his communications team into a tizzy.

Trump also reportedly boasted to the Russians about the intelligence he was receiving, telling the two men, "I get great intel".

Trump discussed details of the threat that the United States only learned through the espionage partner: how the Islamic State was pursuing a specific plot, how much harm that kind of attack could cause and the specific city in the Islamic State's territory where the US intelligence partner detected the threat.

The Post story did not claim that Trump revealed any specific information about how the intelligence was gathered, as McMaster's denial suggested.

"The President and the foreign minister reviewed common threats from terrorist organizations to include threats to aviation", McMaster told The Washington Post. The United States has consulted about the intelligence with allied governments and airlines. The United States and Russian Federation both regard the Islamic State as an enemy. It potentially damages trust that's critical in these kinds of arrangements. "And in this case it's important, because this is apparently an ongoing stream of intelligence into Islamic State plotting".

But a USA official that had been briefed on the matter, in confirming the Post report to BuzzFeed News, said, "It's far worse than what has already been reported". "It is really frightening for our people, especially the people who managed the relationship in getting the information". By doing so, Trump would have jeopardized cooperation from an ally familiar with the inner workings of the Islamic State group, and make other allies - or even USA intelligence officials - wary about sharing future top secret details with the president.

USA reporters were not permitted to cover the meeting. He's expected to be warmly received by Arab allies in Saudi Arabia, who welcomed his decision to launch missiles against a Syrian air base following a chemical weapons attack, and in Israel, where Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu views Trump as more favorable to his interests than former President Barack Obama.

- Martin Heinrich (@MartinHeinrich) May 15, 2017Heinrich cited a February photo which allegedly showed a key to classified information sitting on Trump's desk. He's set to depart on Friday, traveling to Saudi Arabia, Israel and the Vatican, then attending a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation meeting in Brussels, Belgium, and a G7 meeting in Italy.

Powell echoed his statement, also calling the story false and said Trump only talked about the common threat that both countries faced. However, "they did not discuss source, methods, or military operations", US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said in a statement.

The tweetstorm began shortly after The Washington Post reported - and BuzzFeed, The New York Times and Reuters confirmed - that Trump disclosed highly sensitive anti-ISIS information with diplomats visiting the Oval Office last week. I was in the room. He departed without taking questions. The Republican head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Bob Corker, called the allegations "very, very troubling" if true. But Trump told the Russians the specific city of the "detected threat". He added that he wants the House intelligence committee fully briefed on what, if anything, was shared with the Russian officials.

"Risking sources and methods is inexcusable, particularly with the Russians", Sen.

The meeting came a day after that firing, and was already controversial in itself, a red carpet welcome for top aides of Vladimir Putin just months after being hit with USA sanctions for meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

"If the report is true, it is very disturbing", said Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., in a statement.

Even before he was inaugurated, intelligence professionals anxious about sharing classified information with Trump, who often shoots from the hip.

Throughout the campaign, Trump repeatedly criticized his Democratic opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, over her mishandling of classified information on her private email server.
