Approaching cold front brings the chance for more storms Monday

Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Upstate NY: Will we see more hail?

It looks like an active weather day ahead for a portion of New England.

The main hazards from the storm are 60 miles per hour wind gusts and penny-sized hail.

A cold front will be the mechanism to trigger storms Monday afternoon.

Flash flood watch in effect until 9 p.m. Monday.

The National Weather Services cautions people in the line of this storm to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Heavy rain and winds will arrive in Washington and New York City after 4 p.m. and could last until 8 p.m.

All of central Maryland is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch through 8 p.m., and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings have been issued for some areas throughout the day.

The Storm Prediction Center put the D.C. region in an "enhanced" risk of severe weather, which is the third-highest on the five-point scale, which means we have a pretty decent chance of seeing widespread severe weather. Cloud-to-ground lightning is always risky and many communities will experience that from this afternoon into tonight.

Rain will continue in the Richmond area for at least another hour, but the potential for severe wind is over in the metro.

The humidity will be decreasing from northwest to southeast across New England late Monday night into Tuesday. With the increasing sunshine, our atmosphere is becoming increasingly more unstable.
