Boxer who was in critical condition after fight is dead, family says

The world of combat sports in undoubtedly a unsafe one and anyone who enters this sport is risking their life and that was the case for former UFC heavyweight star Tim Hague.

A former UFC fighter from Alberta has died following a boxing match in Edmonton Friday. Hague's friend and fellow-fighter Cody Krahn revealed that the severity of the situation when he confirmed in a Facebook post that the 34-year-old was in a coma in hospital.

He stepped in at late notice to face Adam Braidwood at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Canada, on Friday - but suffered a similar fate as he absorbed heavy damage before being KO'd in the second.

Tim Hague suffered a brain injury during the fight.

"It is with incredible sadness, sorrow and heartbreak to report that Tim has passed away today", Hague's sister, Jackie Neil, said in a statement, via CBC.

Hague would eventually be able to slowly make his way out of the ring under his own steam, but backstage it quickly became clear that something wasn't right and he was rushed to hospital, where he'd immediately undergo sugery for bleeding on the brain.




He had been knocked down three times in the first round and a further two times in the second before it was waved off.

A former UFC fighter who was reportedly knocked out in a boxing event in Edmonton remains in hospital.

'Tim is now in a coma. We will miss him with so greatly.

Our deepest condolences go out to Hague's family and friends during this hard and tragic time.

The five fight UFC veteran earned a record of 1-4-0 in the UFC, with that lone win coming over Pat Barry at UFC 98.
