Sub-inspector killed 2 jawans injured as terrorists fire at CRPF van in Srinagar

School authorities sent out messages to parents saying all students and staff were safe.

SP Vaid, Director General of J&K Police, said the bodies of two militants are lying inside a room in the DPS complex, a sprawling campus of over 400 rooms in four vast buildings.

"The exact number will be known after the search of the building is over, but as per the information, there are two probably, he said".

After hours of fighting to liquidate the two militants holed up in the Delhi Public School (DPS) complex here, the security forces said both were dead and all firing had halted. One CRPF personnel was martyred in the attack while a constable has been injured.

Reports said after the massive shelling, reportedly because of the use of mortars, there has been much of an exchange of fire.

This is the second militant attack on government forces in Srinagar in less than two weeks. They were shifted to a military hospital at Badami Bagh cantonment.

Asked whether the security forces were using drones cameras and other hi-tech gadgets to help flush out the militants, the top cop said?we will use whatever equipment we have.

The administrative block of the school building suffered extensive damage during the gunfight.

Earlier this month, security forces gunned down two terrorists n Sopore in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.

Mobile 3G and 4G Internet services were suspended and the speed of broadband on fixed landline was also brought down in the Kashmir Valley "as a precautionary measure".

The Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit claimed responsibility for the attack.

Restrictions under Section 144 have been imposed in the area, Srinagar's Deputy Commissioner Farooq Ahmad said.
