Democrats just went 0-4. When will they win?

U.S. President Donald Trump boasted Wednesday about Republican success in winning congressional elections this year, the latest in the southern state of Georgia in what was the most expensive race for a seat in the House of Representatives in U.S. history.

The Republican National Committee congratulated Handel, saying: "Tonight, the people of Georgia's Sixth District overwhelmingly voted not only for Karen, but also for President Trump's agenda of replacing our broken healthcare system, reforming an outdated tax code, and prioritizing infrastructure investment".

In her victory speech, Handel even gave "a special thanks to the president of United States of America" as the crowd went wild chanting Trump's name. The sleeper South Carolina Fifth District race to occupy the seat vacated by Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, on the other hand, saw just a 3.2-point gap between Republican Ralph Norman and Democrat Archie Parnell.

"Republicans are going to get exhausted of winning if the Democrats don't get an agenda", White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on "Fox & Friends". The fact that that level of investment failed to pay off with a win against a Republican candidate widely viewed as uninspiring left Democrats frustrated and dispirited heading into the 2018 midterm elections.

A smug President Trump took to Twitter, obviously, to gloat about a Republican win in Georgia's special election.

Ironically, Democrat Jon Ossoff spent much of his campaign complaining about money in politics, stating on an NPR broadcast that "we need campaign finance reform", according to the Washington Examiner. According to the Washington Examiner, Jon Ossoff's campaign raised over $24 million, while Karen Handel's campaign only raised $4.5 million.

I'm not going to lie: I'm not surprised by Tuesday night's result in Georgia's 6 Congressional District election, but I am gutted by it.

Former Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-California), said Ossoff's loss was "tough", but Democrats, "can and will do better in 2018".

The president turned to his preferred method of communicating with his supporters, Twitter, on Tuesday night as the SC and Georgia races were called for Norman and Handel.

Also frustrated with Pelosi's impact on recent races is Rep. Seth Moulton (D., Mass.). Which is relatively close considering the district has been led by a Republican for decades, but not as close as South Carolina's.

He concluded his screed with a humorous message directed at Democrats.

Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell has said this week that the Senate plan would be "different" than the House plan, which has been criticised by Democrats as providing tax cuts for the rich and cutting essential medical programmes.
