Inspirational Djokovic key to my tennis return - Andre Agassi

The duo have been working together since Djokovic parted company with his coaching team

While the Serbian ace is now in the quarter-final of the French Open and does have a Qatar Open title to his name, the rest of his year has been one to forget.

Andre Agassi would not have come back to tennis if it weren't for Novak Djokovic, a player he believes still has many other grand slam titles to win, the American said.

Agassi, an eight-time Grand Slam victor retired in 2006 and since then, he has kept himself away from the game. For me, this is - I do it on my own time, I do it on my own dime, my own money, I don't want anything, I don't need anything.

He's a spectacular player who can get through hard times even if he's not necessarily on point but I think that match made him better in a lot of ways. And I think it helps the game.

"I don't want him thinking about the things that are going to make him so much better that he stops doing what comes naturally and all this, so this is a whole different conversation", replied Agassi.

The former world No.1 is in Paris where Djokovic is defending his title, but will leave on holidays with his family next week. "Whatever is practical and achievable, 100 per cent I will make the effort".

He then named Agassi after he lost to Alexander Zverev in the Rome Masters final a fortnight ago.

A set down against Diego Schwartzman, Djokovic looked to the big screen, saw Agassi taking his seat, and promptly secured a critical break of serve.

"Everything that he said is completely true, so it's completely his decision", he said. We don't have anything set in stone. We don t say he s going to be here until this time or that time.

"I respect her so much so I said okay, I'll go early since I have to be in Paris anyway, and I'll just get to know him".

"He wanted to talk the possibility of working and I said listen, maybe I can help you over the phone, I don't think you need much, but this is not possible for me with the balance of my life". But with Agassi applauding his every victor, he rode out the storm to win in five sets: 5-7, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.

"I don't have any expectations". "As far as I'm concerned, I hope that that's gonna stay for a long time that we can create something that is going to go long term".
