Jeremy Corbyn gets rock star welcome at Glastonbury Festival

He added: "Another world is possible, if we come together to understand the power that we have got and achieve that better society where everyone matters".

Many of the Glastonbury crowd loved the Labour leader's speech. We're here today in Glastonbury, we're doing things differently.

Will Corbyn be the real star of Glastonbury 2017?

"What was fascinating about the last seven weeks of election campaigning around Britain was [that] the commentariat got it wrong".

After receiving a rapturous reception, the Labour leader told thousands of festival-goers that the "number of young people who got involved for the very first time" was inspiring.

"Ye are many-they are few!"

"And that politics that got out of the box isn't going back into the box".

Corbyn was pictured at the event pulling pints of beer for joyful music fans, and his name has also become a festival chant for revelers.

"Is it right that European Union nationals contributing, to the NHS, to society are in an uncertain situation?" he asked, before declaring: "All must stay, be part of our world and part of our community".

A visibly moved Corbyn came on stage arm in arm with Glastonbury festival organiser Michael Eavis, and could not resist a quip at Donald Trump's expense.

"I was sat at home watching the minute's silence on the news when the crowd spontaneously broke into "Don't Look Back In Anger" and for the first time in my life I was f--ing speechless", recalled the songwriter.

During Friday's headline slot, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke recited Mrs May's "strong and stable" election slogan, with crowds chanting "Oh, Jeremy Corbyn".

Billy Bragg, the singer, songwriter and activist who runs the Leftfield politics and music stage, said Brexit had shocked young people into becoming interested in politics, and their influence had been seen a year later. "Shut the door on the way out".

The Labour leader addressed a huge crowd on Saturday afternoon (24 June) ahead of United States rap group Run The Jewels' performance.

He was led on stage by 81-year-old festival founder Michael Eavis.

He then headed over to the Solstice bar.

Glastonbury Festival has always been associated with leftwing politics.

Former chancellor Ed Balls and Yvette Cooper were snapped queuing for the showers.

Shadow chancellor John McDonnell will be part of a panel discussing whether democracy is broken at the Left Field at 12pm on Sunday.
