LeBron James speaks out on racism after graffiti attack

LeBron James and the Cavs will take on Steph Curry and the Warriors beginning Thursday night

LeBron James is speaking out after a "racially motivated slur" was found spray painted on the gates of his Los Angeles home.

James has been a continuous activist against racially motivated instances in the past.

James' Cavaliers will face the Golden State Warriors in game one of the NBA Finals on Thursday.

An unidentified person spray painted the N-word on the front gate of James' home in the Brentwood neighborhood Wednesday morning, said Capt. Patricia Sandoval, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

Investigators at the scene are hopeful the security footage from James' nearby neighbors will help to find the individual (s) involved in the graffiti defamation of his property, per the report.

James bought the 9,440-square-foot house in 2015 for about $20.9 million, according to public records.

James spoke about the incident, which is being investigated as a possible hate crime, in a press conference scheduled for the opening of the Finals. James was in Los Angeles most of last summer working with his production company.

James added, "It goes to show that racism will always be a part of the world, a part of America".

"I look at my son being four years removed from driving his own vehicle and being able to leave the house on his own", James said.

While his priorities remain very much on his family - "basketball comes second", he said - James will now try to put the unfortunate event aside and prepare for the Cavs' clash with the Warriors. He thanked his wife, Savannah, and other family member for handling some tough conversations to come once his two sons, Bronny and Bryce, got home from school.

James, 32, is the National Basketball Association's most prolific playoff scorer and has been named the league's Most Valuable Player four times.

"I hope that they find the people who have done it and they label it for what it was - a hate crime - and punish them", Wulf said.
