London rescue workers: 'We refuse to forget you'

A local London council has chose to evacuate some 800 households in apartment buildings it owns because of safety concerns following the devastating fire that killed 79 people in a west London high-rise.

"We are working side-by-side with our housing groups and the London Fire Brigade and we remain ready to respond to any changes to national fire safety advice".

Residents are to be evacuated from five council tower blocks over fire safety fears in the wake of the Grenfell Tower blaze.

In a statement this evening Ms Gould said firefighters and council officials had inspected the estate today.

Manslaughter charges could be filed over the fatal London high-rise inferno that left 79 people presumed dead, British police said Friday.

She added: 'Together we decided that the Taplow block needs to be temporarily decanted while we undertake urgent fire safety works so that residents can be fully assured of their safety.

The government has ordered immediate testing of the Hotpoint fridge freezer that was involved.

Residents are being moved out tonight and sent initially to a rest centre at Swiss Cottage Library before council workers allocate them accommodation in hotels or, if possible, with family and friends. They added that insulation and tiles recovered from the building have failed fire safety tests.

Investigators have listened to more than 600 emergency calls - and "some of those calls are over an hour long and each call tells its own distressing story", she said.

"We are looking at every criminal offense from manslaughter onwards", Detective Superintendent Fiona McCormack told reporters.

The police report confirms the fire had not been started deliberately and manufacturers of the fridge-freezer which triggered the fire, Hotpoint, have been contacted.

"Preliminary tests show the insulation samples collected from Grenfell Tower combusted soon after the test started", she said.

The fire spread quickly through the tower block, leading to concerns that cladding on the building did not meet fire safety rules.

McCormack also repeated calls for anyone with information about the fire and all those in the tower at the time to come forward as police continue to comb through the devastated building to try to identify all the victims.

Four more victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster have been formally identified, police said.

Towers in Camden, Manchester, Hounslow and Plymouth are among the at-risk buildings, the Department for Communities and Local Government confirmed. I don't know where we are going to go.
