More than two dozen people killed in multiple Pakistan blasts

Security forces raided a militant hideout in the northwestern city of Peshawar before dawn Saturday tri

At least 37 people have been killed and more than 100 injured in two separate attacks in Pakistan, according to local officials.

The second explosion occurred as people rushed to rescue and assist those wounded in the first explosion. The Islamic State also made a claim of responsibility, as it has done in several earlier terrorism episodes in the province in recent months.

In the second incident, at least 11 people were killed in two nearly simultaneous explosions at a market in the north-western town of Parachinar.

Twin blasts rocked Pakistan's densely populated area of Kurram Agency's Parachinar city on Friday, killing at least 25 people, media reports said.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called for security to be beefed up across the country as he condemned the attack, saying that no Muslim could ever imagine committing such a "horrific" act.

"Till now at least 15 people have been confirmed killed in the attack as it is a very busy area", said Shahid Turi, a local lawmaker from the area.

The first attack took place in Quetta, the provincial capital of southwestern Baluchistan Province, when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives after his vehicle was stopped at a security checkpoint. The blast, in front of the office of the Quetta police chief, was claimed by both the local affiliate of the Islamic State group and by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA), an offshoot of the Pakistani Taliban, according to the SITE monitoring group.

Kurram, one of Pakistan's seven semi-autonomous tribal districts, is known for sectarian clashes between Sunnis and Shiites, who make up roughly 20 percent of Pakistan's population of 200 million.

Reports suggest four police officers were killed in the attack. Nine security officials were among the wounded, said Fareed Sumalan, a doctor at the hospital.
