Pelosi defends leadership following special election loss

The USA on 29 December 2016 have ordered Russian diplomats to leave the country within 72 hours a sanction that is aimed to punish an alleged cyberhack into the 2016 US presidential elections

The response from some is that it better be.

President Donald Trump taunted Nancy Pelosi in a tweet Thursday as Republicans and some Democrats have pinned the loss of the special election in Georgia's 6th Congressional District on the House minority leader.

The apparent effectiveness of that messaging suggested to some that the 77-year-old Californian could be a liability for Democrats as they aim to regain their majority.

Former Ohio Senate Minority Leader, Joe Schiavoni says elections should not be about Trump. Which was fine by the Democrats who thought they were going to pounce and pick one off. And control of the House of Representatives could still be in play in the 2018 midterm elections.

Democrats also lost a special election in SC on Tuesday in a race Republicans were widely expected to win. Ryan added, "I don't think it's fair". As the president sent out tweet, his son Donald Trump Jr. chose to do the same on June 21. But last night, Republican Karen Handel was able to declare victory over Democrat Jon Ossoff.

Despite Tuesday's losses in Georgia's 6th District and South Carolina's 5th, Pelosi can resist the pressure to give up her position during the current congressional term. It was so short they couldn't have gotten out of there fast enough.

Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., who also attended the meeting, said, "in every corner of our caucus, we're concerned". "They're anxious about paying the bills, what's happening with our pension, how much does it cost to send a kid to school, what's our energy bill like". So it's time for change. "It is possible that he could actually get re-elected if Democrats aren't careful".

"One of the disappointing things from the last couple days is that that approach has a little bit of punch to it, it still moves voters", Ryan said. But Pelosi insisted she's already done that by bringing younger members into leadership. On Thursday, the National Republican Senatorial Committee sent out a press release attacking Nevada Democratic Rep. Jacky Rosen over her ties to Pelosi. She's also credited for many legislative successes on Capitol Hill. Walk up the street and ask 10 people what the Democrats stand for, you'll get 10 different answers.

BENNETT: Democrats see 70 House seats that could be easier to flip than that Georgia district.

"She's easy to demonize. I thrive on competition", she said.

Pelosi said she respected critical opinions, but, "my decision to stay is not up to them".
