Russian Federation investigation: Attorney General Rosenstein might recuse himself

Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, sent out spokespeople and surrogates with a far-fetched cover story to explain the dismissal, and then told NBC's Lester Holt that the real reason for the firing was Comey's pursuit of the Russian Federation investigation.

In another tweet posted about two hours earlier on Friday morning, Trump, for the second consecutive day, went directly after DOJ's Russian Federation probe, which now includes an examination of whether the president obstructed justice when asking Comey to drop a probe of his first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, or by firing Comey.

Rosenstein wrote a memo in May to Trump strongly criticizing FBI Director James Comey's performance. "FBI director" James Comey in a tweet Friday morning, once again calling the investigation a "witch hunt".

The president tweeted: "After 7 months of investigations & committee hearings about my 'collusion with the Russians, ' nobody has been able to show any proof".

He appeared to be referring to Rod Rosenstein, deputy attorney general who is now leading the probe.

The statement came as word surfaced that Mueller is now reportedly looking into the finances and business dealings of Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law and adviser.

Rosenstein handed the reigns of that investigation over to independent Special Counsel Robert Mueller about one week after Comey's dismissal.

Trump hadn't publicly admitted he was personally under investigation until now. He then, as he does nearly daily, referred to the Justice Department's Russian Federation election meddling probe as a "Witch Hunt". The revelation led many to believe Trump was planning on firing Rosenstein from the Justice Department, or that the deputy attorney general had possibly refused to fire Mueller on Trump's behalf.

President Donald Trump has just officially admitted he is under criminal investigation for obstruction of justice.

Mueller serves at the will and pleasure of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who appointed him to head the inquiry.

"The Fake News Media hates when I use what has turned out to be my very powerful Social Media - over 100 million people!" The White House has denied any collusion.

In an attempt to inoculate the Trump administration from criticism over Comey, many top officials have heralded Rosenstein.

Trump has repeatedly sworn that he is personally not under investigation, and Comey assured him that he wasn't. "Trump reverted to attacking the special counsel, railed at Hillary Clinton (!) and, frankly, seemed once again unglued", Rubin wrote in The Post's Friday editions.

Trump advisers and confidants describe the president as increasingly angry over the investigation, yelling at television sets in the White House carrying coverage and insisting he is the target of a conspiracy to discredit — and potentially end — his presidency.
