Take-Two takes action against more GTA V hack tools

The developer of the popular Grand Theft Auto modding software OpenIV, has received a cease and desist letter from publisher Take-Two Interactive. "We apologize for any and all problems Menyoo has caused to the Grand Theft Auto Online community". In this case, however, the mod is perhaps a little more deserving.

"So, we made a decision to agree with their claims and we're stopping distribution of OpenIV".

We've requested comment from Take-Two about this controversy and will update as we hear more.

Immensely popular among GTA 5's PC modding community, OpenIV was used not only to create and modify content like vehicles, weapons, gameplay features, and effects, but also as an enhanced video editor, offering more in-depth tools to machinima makers. Unfortunately, Take Two Interactive, publisher of GTA V has recently issued a cease and desist letter to the creators of modding tools, including OpenIV, Menyoo and Force Hax. People have been using it for around a decade - at this point it's a cornerstone of the modding scene.

Take-Two isn't slowing down in its quest to shut down the modders. GTA Online has become a major point of pride (and, more importantly, revenue) for Rockstar Games and Take-Two, so it's cracking down on anything that threatens the player experience there. The message can not be more clear to Take Two Interactive as it states that thousands have lost their ability to mod the game, or pursue their passion for modding. "We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting our players", the studio said in response to fan criticism. It led to a slew of negative reviews for GTA V on Steam, bringing its "Recent" rating down to "Overwhelmingly Negative" and dropping the "Overall" rating to 'Mixed.' There's also a Save OpenIV petition on change.org that's quickly closing in on its target 50,000 signatures. At the time of writing, only 13% of the 39,936 reviews offered in the last 30 days have been positive.
