Turbulence Injures At Least 26 On China Eastern Flight

"We felt strong turbulence twice and minor turbulence three times".

Xinhua said (in Chinese) that two violent bumps and many small bumps occurred over about 10 minutes. "We feel lucky the plane did not crash", said an injured passenger surnamed Shang. People on board who were not wearing seat belts were thrown from their seats, while other were struck by baggage jarred loose from overhead compartments.

At least four injured passengers are said to be in a critical condition, the agency said.

Today, a China Eastern flight from Paris to Kunming experienced turbulence and some passenger were discomforted.




None of the passengers received life-threatening injuries, said the First People's Hospital of Yunnan Province, where those injured were taken.

The incident came a week after another China Eastern plane made an emergency landing in Sydney, after a huge hole appeared in one of its engine casings and forced it to turn back just after taking off.

The pilot reported problems with the engine of the plane, another Airbus A330, about one hour after taking off. Passengers told media they smelt something burning inside the aircraft.
