Uber 'obtained rape victim's medical records'

Uber sacks 20 employees as part of sexual harassment crackdown

A top Uber executive has been fired after obtaining medical records of a female passenger who was raped during a ride in India, Recode reports. Chief Executive Officer Travis Kalanick and his deputy Emil Michael over the years entertained a peculiar theory: They suggested to colleagues that their Indian competitor may have framed Uber for a headline-grabbing rape in India, according to people familiar with the matter.

Uber Technologies Inc stated this week it sacked 20 workers and was enhancing administration training taking after an examination by a law office into inappropriate behavior charges and different cases at the ride-hailing organization.

Huffington predicts that increasingly, companies will be motivated to provide space where employees can retreat to refresh.

Alexander's handling of the delicate situation was among 215 claims reported to two law firms - Perkins Coie and Covington & Burling - doing deep investigations into both specific and widespread mismanagement issues at the company, including around allegations of pervasive sexism and sexual harassment at Uber.

A unnamed company spokesperson, while confirming to Recode that Alexander was no longer with the company, however declined to state whether he had been fired as part of the ongoing investigations that has already seen the departure of about 20 top employees, raising deep concerns about the workplace culture at one of the most high-profile startups in the world.

It was a decision Uber India president Amit Jain applauded at the time. "Sexual assault is a bad crime and we're pleased he has now been brought to justice", he said in a statement.

"All reported incidents to date have been investigated, and where they were corroborated we have taken swift, decisive action on the findings", Uber said in an email statement. Photos online show that Alexander was in Delhi in December 2014 for multiple days of police questioning. The violent crime resulted in the immediate ban of the Uber service in Delhi; the ban was lifted several months later.

As well as the criminal case, the woman sued Uber.

It's unclear how Alexander obtained the medical records. And the incident prompted the company to revise its background check system and introduce new safety features, including a help button inside its app.

Alexander then brought the files to Kalanick and Michael, who read them, said sources. But how about all the other cars that are more than a year old?
