"Ted Heath lost and tried to form another government and tried to get another majority in Parliament".

Class and education may not be the deciding factors in the most recent UK General elections, that pitted the young against the old.

May is now expected to form a minority government with the support of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), a Northern Irish party with 10 members of Parliament, which is dedicated to keeping Northern Ireland as part of the United Kingdom. Sky sources: Downing Street issued the wrong statement in error.

When May called the election in April, she did so with the Conservatives riding high in the polls, and the pound had surged on expectations that a big majority for the Conservatives would allow her to face down the so-called euroskeptics in her parliamentary ranks.

Mrs May added: "The Government I lead will put fairness and opportunity at the heart of everything we do, so that we will fulfil the promise of Brexit together and - over the next five years - build a country in which no one and no community is left behind".

The DUP party traditionally held a "euroscpetic" stance and backed the Brexit vote.

But senior figures also cautioned against an immediate leadership election, as the government prepares to start talks on leaving the European Union around June 19.

However she said he, along with foreign secretary Boris Johnson, home secretary Amber Rudd, defence secretary Michael Fallon and Brexit minister David Davis would remain in their posts. "Instead of strong and stable leadership we witness chaos and uncertainty", he said, mocking May's campaign slogan.

European Council President Donald Tusk has warned there was "no time to lose" in starting talks, after May started the two-year countdown to Brexit on March 29. "That's going to make it hard for the European Union 27 because they're going to want to know who they're talking to and what their policy is". The results delivered a stinging rebuke to Mrs May, who now finds herself trying to lead the ruling Conservatives with a minority administration, a damaged reputation and a non-existent mandate to conduct complex Brexit negotiations.

"The British need to negotiate their exit but with a weak negotiating partner, there is a danger that the talks are bad for both parties", he told German radio. While Labour's Lord Collins, the worldwide development spokesperson for the House of Lords, has said "there may be a case for internationally tweaking the [rules]", he said Labour would block any attempt to break with the global community.

Indeed, had Labour gained just a few more seats, May would not have been able to form a majority coalition at all, leading either to Corbyn being asked to form a government, or new elections being called. The Democratic Unionist Party won 10 seats.

Mr Hammond, 61, was named Chancellor of The exchequer by Mrs May shortly after she took over as prime minister almost a year ago, in the wake of Britain's decision to leave the European Union.

Last December, Hill also told senior Conservative lawmaker Nicky Morgan to keep away from Downing Street after criticizing the premier for her expensive leather pants.

Conservative lawmaker Anna Soubry said she should "consider her position", while another, Heidi Allen, said she may not last six months.

With results in from all 650 House of Commons seats after Thursday's vote, May's bruised Conservatives had 318 - short of the 326 they needed for an outright majority and well down from the 330 seats they had before May's roll of the electoral dice.
