Vice President Mike Pence Traveling to Miami for Planned Speech at FIU

Vice President Mike Pence speaks during a conference on Prosperity and Security in Central America Thursday

Vice President Mike Pence is stopping into Miami Thursday to talk about Central America's future.

Pence's choice for outside counsel contrasts with the president's. Pence has retained former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Richard Cullen, who is chairman of McGuire Woods, the Post reported.

U.S. President Donald Trump is being investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller for possible obstruction of justice, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing unidentified officials.

Cullen also served as the attorney general of Virginia and as a USA attorney under President George H.W. Bush.

The visit from Pence comes one day before President Donald Trump will arrive in Miami, where he is expected to make a major announcement regarding the USA and Cuba.

"The vice president is focused entirely on his duties and promoting the president's agenda and looks forward to a swift conclusion of this matter", the statement reads.

Mueller and congressional committees are investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election and possible connections with Trump's campaign. Former FBI Director James Comey told Congress last week he believes he was sacked by Trump to undermine the agency's Russian Federation probe.

Pence, joined by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly, was speaking at the Conference on Prosperity and Security in Central America being held at Florida International University.
