Whole Foods CEO calls Amazon buyout a "courtship"

Whole Foods CEO calls deal with Amazon'whirlwind courtship

"While Amazon utilized Amazon Fresh to deliver groceries, the company now will be able to tap into the $611.9 billion brick-and-mortar grocery stores industry", she says. The deal is going to "change how you buy food forever", in the words of USA Today.

Amazon.com and Whole Foods have already revealed their different styles.

Last month CNBC reported that Amazon was in serious discussions about breaking into the prescription drug business, and the move to acquire Whole Foods may be a strategic one, suggest some experts. It was truly love at first sight ... They are a tremendous company that has so much to teach us.

"We just fell in love", Mr. Mackey said, according to the transcript. "This is gonna be so incredibly wonderful".

Amazon has recently obtained a patent to a technology that bars shoppers in its physical stores including Whole Foods to compare prices on their smartphones. And- these guys are really smart people. Mackey himself admitted he had gone off script, even though he held back on details about future plans. But the internet retailer isn't "stupid enough" to change Whole Foods' brand, Mackey told employees at Friday's gathering.

That was feeling of Taylor Malooly, 19, a University of Texas student at Whole Foods in Austin, who said a Whole Foods delivery service would have to be fast if he were to try it. But Mackey promised a big shift in focus. Carmen Clark, 37, a six-year employee at a store in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, said some workers worry that Amazon-led automation could lead to job cuts.

"I think there's the argument that Amazon acquired Whole Foods for free", he said.

What exactly might these innovations be? Amazon has, however, rolled out a futuristic store concept with no cashiers or checkout lines.

After the company's merger with Amazon, it seems Whole Foods CEO John Mackey is intent on improving its relationship with customers. But they care about their team - their team members, their suppliers, their investors.

"Amazon is known to scale experiments very quickly". It is famous for its willingness to lose money year after year due to low prices and big investments in the company, so long as it is vastly increasing the customer base. Whole Foods has a corporate culture that prizes inclusive decision-making, such as allowing workers to vote on benefits every three years and disclosing executive pay.

Amazon may be seeking to make the high-end grocer more competitive with Walmart and other mass-market retailers, the New York Post reports. "They're not playin" a bunch of BS games", Mackey said.

Peter Belanger of Newington, Connecticut, who was shopping at a Whole Foods in West Hartford, said he didn't think he'd be interested in groceries online. Amazon's resources and technology might help expand those stores, some analysts say.
