Campaign for Jerusalem begins after Palestine freezes contacts with Israel

Three Israelis were killed by a Palestinian in a stabbing attack in a West Bank Settlement on Friday.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was due to convene his security cabinet at 7.30 p.m. (12.30 p.m. ET) to weigh alternatives.

"Israel is not driving the violence committed by the Palestinians", the statement said. Police said they were investigating the charge.

Israel says the three Israeli Arabs involved in the 14 July shooting near the compound were able to smuggle guns inside and that the new security measures are needed to stop similar attacks. "It's Palestinian leadership - Fatah and Hamas - that incites violence against Israelis on a daily basis".

Sacred to Muslims, Jews, and Christians, Jerusalem is home to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which for Muslims represents the world's third-holiest site.

Crews of experts began examining the damage to cultural monuments and infrastructure on the eastern Greek island of Kos on Saturday, a day after a powerful natural disaster killed two tourists and injured almost 500 others.

Israeli leaders downplayed the threat from Abbas to cut off contact, saying the Palestinian leader was likely bluffing to rally support on the street.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu on Sunday discussed over the phone the recent Israeli violations at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem.

The clashes came one day after Israeli occupation police said they were barring men under 50 from entering Jerusalem's Old City for Friday prayers.

Local residents said the family emptied its home of valuables, expecting it to be demolished.

In addition, the Red Crescent emergency service confirmed 391 people were wounded in the clashes, many after inhaling tear gas, the Palestinian news agency Maan said. TV footage showed the floor tiles drenched in blood, and officials called it a "massacre".

"What is outrageous is Abbas' refusal to condemn the despicable murder", Lieberman told Ynet.

"Continued cooperation between Israel and the Palestinian Authority is crucially important to prevent further violence and loss of life", the statement added.

"All I have is a sharpened knife, and it responds to the call of Al-Aqsa, " he wrote. God will take revenge on you.

He has been held each time under Israel's policy of administrative detention, which is a sort of imprisonment without trial or charge that allows Israel to incarcerate Palestinians for up to six months.

Abed's father told the Associated Press that his son believed he was defending Muslim honor.

The Palestinian Authority's leadership has addressed the issue of incitement against Israel and Jews, according to the State Department report.
