Local health care experts weigh in on Affordable Care Act debate

Repealing the Affordable Care Act (with or without a replacement plan) will harm the health of many Americans and increase barriers to accessing necessary health care. Now the GOP faces some tough questions about the likelihood of its "repeal-and-replace" efforts.

Meanwhile, Save Our Care - which is backed by many of those and other Democratic organizations - on Tuesday launched radio ads targeting four Republican senators over their votes to proceed to debating the Obamacare repeal effort: Nevada's Dean Heller, Arizona's Jeff Flake, West Virginia's Shelley Moore Capito and Colorado's Cory Gardner. "Our lives depend on it, and our senators promised to protect us - now we promise to make sure their constituents know how they voted". The deciding vote was cast by Sen.

The majority of groups were major health care advocacy organizations, including the Cancer Advocacy Network, the March of Dimes, the American Lung Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Defenders say it has expanded the number of Americans who are insured. "The current proposals are simply unacceptable as written, and any attempts to repeal the ACA (Affordable Care Act) without a concurrent replacement is also unacceptable", he said in a July 25 statement.

"In the end, this effort to ram through legislation that would have robbed tens of millions of America's families of their health insurance failed because enough Senators chose to ignore misguided calls to party loyalty, and instead sided with the needs of the people of their states".

Just prior to the procedural vote, Republican Sen.

"Will we begin the debate on one of the most important issues confronting America today?" he asked before answering: "It is my hope that the answer will be yes".

"My experience has been if you really want to screw something up, put the government in charge of it", Blair countered, saying that he is "not all that enamored" with the possibility of a single-payer health care system, even as it gains popularity amid the legislative back-and-forth regarding health care on Capitol Hill.
