Sushma Swaraj 'Lied' In Parliament About Doklam Standoff: Chinese Media

Sikkim standoff: Pak game plan in focus as envoy meets Chinese ambassador to India

A columnist from the state-run Global Times recently claimed that under India's "logic" to stall the Chinese road construction in Doklam, "a third country's Army can enter the area disputed by India and Pakistan, including India-controlled Kashmir". To Sushma's statement during Question Hour, the Chinese daily goes on to say that Swaraj is "lying to the Parliament".

"All countries feel that India's stand in the matter is not wrong". The Chinese action "is a challenge to our security", the Minister said in the first exhaustive Indian comment on the border row that began over a month ago in the Sikkim sector of the winding Sino-Indian frontier. Won't talk until India withdraws troops: China: CHINA on Thursday reiterated that it won't talk to India until New Delhi withdraws troops from Doka La where both armies have been locked in a stand-off for more than a month.

Chinese envoys are already facing an uphill task trying to convince western countries that the world's biggest democracy was actually an aggressor on the border with the second biggest economy. But a break in the crisis has to satisfy not only India and China but also Bhutan, making this a doubly hard endeavour.

Under the circumstances it is ever more hard for China to convince the USA, which is not a natural ally in any case, that it is the victim in the ongoing border dispute in Sikkim, while India is the aggressor.

It asserted that India should not count on support of USA and Japan "because their support is illusory".

Reports suggest that even some diplomats tried to play down the meetings, Indian administration was keenly monitoring trilateral talks happening in New Delhi. "China's military spending is four times that of India where its GDP volume is five times that of India", it says.

India, US and Japan have just completed join naval exercises, Malabar 2017. "If New Delhi remains stubborn, India should get prepared for all possibilities from a potentially grave escalation of tension in the future", the daily warned.

The article ends on an ominous note, saying that India would risk "losing face and be totally disgraced" besides losing its political clout.

It will be futile to have a repeat of the Wangdung incident of 1986, when the Chinese and Indian forces were in close proximity for seven years.

Amidst the crisis in full bloom, PM Naredra Modi and Chinese president Xi Jinping had a brief but cordial meeting on the sidelines of the Hamburg G-20 Summit some weeks back, expressing satisfaction over their cooperation in the BRICS platform. BRICS comprises member countries Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
