The British government has no involvement with the case of Charlie Gard

Charlie’s parents Connie Yates and Chris Gard. More than 350,000 people have signed a petition seeking treatment for their 11-month old son

A London children's hospital on Friday asked a British court to assess new evidence about the condition of Charlie Gard, a terminally ill baby at the center of a legal battle that has drawn global attention.

The 11-month-old's parents have been in a protracted legal battle with hospital doctors, who said the experimental treatment the couple have argued Charlie should receive will not help.

'He's our son, he's our flesh and blood, ' she said.

"We feel that it should be our right as parents to decide to give him a chance at life", Yates told supporters outside the London hospital Sunday, according to the Guardian.

It comes after GOSH said on Friday it had applied to the High Court for a fresh hearing "in light of claims of new evidence relating to potential treatment for his condition".

Brett King, 54, accused GOSH doctors of making a "boardroom decision" on Charlie's case and told the paper: "There's no logic in refusing them".

"Two worldwide hospitals and their researchers have communicated to us as late as the last 24 hours that they have fresh evidence about their proposed experimental treatment", the hospital said in the statement. The case is due to be heard at the High Court in London on Monday.

After urging British Prime Minister, Theresa May, to support their case, the two will join a demonstration outside Great Ormond Street Hospital - after they vowed the "fight is not over".

She added: "There is nothing to lose, he deserves a chance".

Ms Yates added: "If he's still fighting, we're still fighting".

Great Ormond Street Hospital's statement was the latest twist in a case that has raised hard bioethical and legal questions, and has caught the attention of Pope Francis and United States President Donald Trump.

Clinicians from the Vatican-owned hospital's neurosciences department said tests in mice and patients with similar, but not identical, genetic condition as Charlie's suggests that the boy's condition could significantly improve, the Associated Press reported.

"That very institution hired to care for Charlie is trying to strip him of his rights and his parents of their rights to even just take him to get a second opinion". Charlie will die from his illness, his doctors have said. The hospital also offered to ship the experimental drug to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Charlie's parents want to bring Charlie to the USA, where a specialist is willing to offer him an experimental treatment for his rare condition called infantile onset encephalomyopathic mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome, or MDDS.

An online campaign to send Charlie to the US for treatment has raised more than 1.3 million pounds ($1.7 million).

The lord chancellor, David Lidington, expressed sympathy with the judges involved in the "heartwrenching" case when asked on Sky News' Ridge On Sunday whether it was right that judges could overrule the wishes of Charlie's parents.

GOSH said its view of treatment, however, had not changed - but that it believed it was right to seek the view of the High Court.
