China tells India to cease making excuses and withdraw its troops

India rejects China's claims, says 400 troops at Dokalam

The foreign ministry issued a paper on Wednesday elaborating on what has transpired - and the Chinese government's position over the incident - warning India not to underestimate China's resolve to defend its territory.

"India's intrusion into the Chinese territory under the pretext of Bhutan", it continued, "has not only violated China's territorial sovereignty but also challenged Bhutan's sovereignty and independence".

Asked about China's claim of India reducing its troops from 400 to 48 in Doklam, the MEA spokesman refused to say how many Indian troops were there at Doklam, calling it an operational matter. "India always believes peace in the India-China border area is an important prerequisite for smooth development of our bilateral relations", the Minister said.

"The series of remarks from the Chinese side within a 24-hour period sends a signal to India that there is no way China will tolerate the Indian troops' incursion into Chinese territory for too long". At the same time, China has once said in a threatening tone that India should not test its patience on the Doklam dispute because there is also a limit to patience. "This administration is recklessly breaking worldwide norms and jeopardizing India's national pride and peaceful development". He also referred to External Affairs Ministry Sushma Swaraj's statement that as a neighbour India was committed to help Bhutan. On Friday, Ma said Chinese businessmen and companies were interested in not only continuing but increasing investment in India, especially in the eastern sector - West Bengal and the North-East states.

Amid the Doklam standoff between India and China, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Saturday appealed to the people of the country to boycott the use of Chinese products and asserted the need to reclaim Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) from Pakistan.

"If the Indian side truly cherishes peace, what it should do is to immediately pull back the trespassing border troops to the Indian side of the boundary", the spokesperson stated.

"The Modi government should stop lying to its people that 'India in 2017 is different from India in 1962.' The gap in national strength between the two countries is the largest in the past 50 years".

Geng repeated that on June 18 about 270 Indian troops "advanced more than 100 meters into the Chinese territory to obstruct the road building of the Chinese side".

"The standoff has not been resolved because China and India see the incident from different perspectives".

It is a line that has been echoed nearly word for word this week by the foreign ministry, the official Xinhua news agency, the ruling Communist Party mouthpiece the People's Daily, the official military news website of the Chinese armed forces, and other outlets.

"However, goodwill has its principles and restraint has its bottom line", the defence ministry said, upping the ante.
