Did the Facebook AI create its own language?

Facebook shuts down AI program after bots start to communicate in their own language

While researchers were fascinated by the development and not anxious about the language being a way for the bots to keep secrets from developers, Facebook had to shut down the programs due to the fact that they were being created to speak to humans, not in coded language to each other.

Just days after the announcement of Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk that AI is the biggest risk, now Facebook went as far to shut down one of its AI systems after the chatbots started making their own language breaking the previous restrictions provided to them.

However, that's what Tech Times reports happened recently at Facebook. They were part of a project to develop bots that could negotiate both with humans and other computer programs.

The bots were attempting to imitate human speech when they developed their own machine language spontaneously - at which point Facebook chose to shut them down.

The pair of bots were supposed to communicate exclusively in English, but instead created a new language for themselves. The sentences "I can i i everything else" and "balls have zero to me to me to me" sound like nonsense to us, but they demonstrate how two of the AI bots negotiated with each other.

But, after leaving the pair alone, researchers at the firm's artificial intelligence lab found they had deviated from the given script and had invented new phrases on their own.

But Facebook's system was being used for research, not public-facing applications, and it was shut down because it was doing something the team wasn't interested in studying - not because they thought they had stumbled on an existential threat to mankind.

"I can can I I everything else". Alice: balls have zero to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me toBob: you i i i i i everything else. The bots are negotiating an exchange of balls, with repeated use of words like "i" and "me" representing the number of items.

Dhruv Batra of Facebook AI Research (FAIR), however, argues in favor of Bob and Alice.

But the researchers also said it is impossible for humans to comprehend the AI language and translate it into English.

Fast forward to now, and those collaborative artificial intelligences have come up with some shortcuts to that process.

The only issue is that humans won't be able to understand the language of AI robots. As we begin to make progress towards human-level AI, several developments and breakthroughs in the field of AI have begun to make waves.

The conversation continues with variations of the number of the times Bob said "i" and the number of times Alice said "to me" in the discussion.
