Hillary Clinton, in interview, reflects on 'very painful' loss

Names and faces

This week, Clinton is scheduled to appear on ABC's "The View" and the popular center-left podcast "Pod Save America", and she will attend a book signing in NY.

"As an active politician, it's over".

However, Clinton added she was not finished with politics entirely because our "future is at stake".

Hillary Clinton on Sunday described the lingering pain of being "gobsmacked" after losing the presidency 10 months ago to Donald Trump and said she wouldn't be a candidate for office ever again.

And now the former leading presidential candidate has added three new reasons to that list. "It's part of the demonstration of the continuity of our government", Clinton explained.

"I just felt this enormous letdown, just kind of loss of feeling and direction and sadness", she told Pauley about her emotions in the election's immediate aftermath. She then weighed in on Trump's speech, calling it "a cry from the white nationalist gut". And the report notes that while on the campaign trail Clinton said she wanted "comprehensive immigration" reform and would also "fight to protect" immigrants covered under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans acts ordered under President Barack Obama. "Every few minutes, Bill would repeat what he had been saying all morning: 'I'm so proud of you, ' " she remembers.

Despite her loss, Clinton told Pauley she takes pride in having run a traditional campaign, compared to Trump's unconventional campaign. "I was up against the Russian intelligence apparatus, a misguided Federal Bureau of Investigation director, and now the godforsaken Electoral College", she writes in her book, according to NBC News.

"There were a large number of people who didn't care", Clinton said.

"He was quite successful in referencing a nostalgia that would give hope, comfort, settle grievances for millions of people who were upset about gains made by others", she said". "But then, midnight, I decided, 'well - you know, looks like it's not going to work'".

"I think I am good, but that doesn't mean that I am complacent or resolved about what happened".

Promoting a new book that details her surprise defeat in last year's presidential election, Ms Clinton said attending the inauguration ceremony of the man who defeated her was "like an out-of-body experience".

"We have a reality show that leads to the election of a president", she said.

'You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump's supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. "I thought a lot of his appeals to voters were deplorable".
