Iran will increase its military capabilities and ballistic

Iran unveiled its latest ballistic missile dubbed "Khoramshahr" during a military parade in Tehran on Friday. "We will not seek permission from anyone to defend our country", Rouhani said in a speech broadcast on state television.

Iran also displayed other home-made advanced missiles, including ballistic missiles, which are reported to have ranges of 1,300 km to 2,000 km.

"Whether you like it or not, we are going to strengthen our military capabilities, needed in the area of deterrence. Not only will we fortify our missiles, but our ground, navy and air forces will always be supported by the people".

Iran expert Sanam Vakil, an associate fellow with the UK's Chatham House, said that Rouhani was playing to both the global and domestic audience.

In February, Iran test-fired the same medium-range type of missile, prompting Trump to say that the United States is "putting Iran on notice".

He also reiterated that Iran's military might is meant to protect its dignity and ensure peace, saying Tehran would never use its power to attack the other nations.

"The missile has become smaller in size and more tactical, and it will be operational in the near future", Brig.

Speaking at the parade, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani promised his country's military would keep pressing forward.

Mr. Rouhani, a moderate, has staked his reputation on sealing the nuclear deal and relieving the Iranian economy of debilitating global sanctions.

The United States extended sanctions relief for Iran last week as part of the agreement, which President Donald Trump has described as "the worst deal ever".

What's new, he said, is that Iran says its ballistic missiles can carry multiple warheads and maybe several cluster bombs.

Mr. Trump's secretary of state, Rex W. Tillerson, has said that the Iran nuclear agreement must be changed or the United States would not stick with it. Iran has said the accord is not up for renegotiation.

There is no doubt that Washington will respond to Iran's statement and the development of the country's missile program.

This week, Foreign minister Wang Yi of China said that tensions on the Korean Peninsula highlighted the importance of the Iranian deal, and Foreign Minister Sergey V. Lavrov of Russian Federation said that the United States' imposition of unilateral sanctions on Iran was "illegitimate and undermines the collective nature of worldwide efforts".
