Ryan International School's CEO seeks anticipatory bail over murder case

Police team arrive to investigate after the murder of a 2nd grade student of Ryan International School in Gurugram on Friday. PTI

On Sunday, the Haryana government ordered that a criminal case be filed against the management of the Ryan International School as well as the owner of the school, following the murder of seven-year-old, Pradhyumn Thakur. Sharma said there are many security lapses in this school which requires improvement.

"They have been booked under India's Juvenile Justice Act".

The police has arrested the conductor of a school bus who confessed that he killed the boy.

Acting on the plea, the Supreme Court issued notices to the Centre, Human Rights Development Ministry and the Haryana government.

Their application further said, "Despite taking all necessary steps for security and well being of the students as required by law and prudence, if such an unfortunate incident occurs, the institution can not be held culpable as it is itself a victim of unfortunate circumstance".

Meanwhile, a Gurugram Court on Saturday sent the accused involved in the murder of a seven-year old student of Ryan International School to three days of police remand.

While the incident has terrified the parents across all schools, it is to be noted that this is not the first time that the school is in the news for the wrong reasons.

Gurgaon Police Commissioner Sandeep Khirwar said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case believes that evidence in the case was tampered with. Police then resorted to lathicharge to bring the situation under control and disperse the protesters. Schoolbus conductor Ashok Kumar, who allegedly tried to sexually assault the class II student in a toilet and slit his throat with a knife when he resisted on Friday last is already behind bars.

While inconsolable parents of Pradyuman await justice, we at People's Court hold the Ryan Group owners in the dock and hold them exclusively accountable for the boy's murder.

"Following the tragic incident at our school yesterday, the school authorities have seriously taken up the review of the security measures at the school".

The sudden move by the high-profile Pinto couple - Augustine, a former Sheriff of Mumbai and Grace, close to the top-ranking Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) echelons - came amidst reports that a Haryana Police team would question them and other trustees.

Unless a very strong case is made out against them too other schools will not take this issue seriously. A parallel CBI Probe was also demanded by the victim's father, Varun Thakur, as the school had severe administrative loopholes.
