'When Is The Right Time For Black People To Protest?'

Trump had called them "son of a bitch", adding they should be "fired".

The comments made by President Donald Trump might have meant to turn professional athletes exercising their Constitutional rights into enemies of the state, but it appears to have had the opposite effect.

"You think black Americans are free from the worry of being shot by agents of the state?" asked Noah in disbelief.

Seth Meyers dedicated an entire "Closer Look" segment to the controversy, noting that despite the fact that nuclear tensions are escalating with North Korea and 3 million Americans are now without power in Puerto Rico, "President Trump decided what our nation needed most this past weekend was one more fucking thing for us to deal with". "I can say that with confidence".

Noah's investigation turned up a telling pattern in white critics' arguments - that black players are "ungrateful".

He then referenced the Cowboys after the entire team, including owner Jerry Jones, briefly knelt before the national anthem ahead of their Monday night NFL game. They're not protesting the American flag.

Meyers pointed out, as other comedians did, that numerous National Football League owners who sided with their players and disagreed with Trump had backed Trump in the 2016 presidential election.

Seth Meyers of NBC also weighed in. When black athletes peacefully protest racism and police brutality, Trump has no trouble summoning his outrage.

He then mocked Trump's assurance that this had "nothing to do with race."

"This is about racial inequality".

"Really? That's the loudest booing you ever heard?" Would you like it if our complaints were mournfully sung in an old Negro spiritual? As she put it, "You know someone is racist when they don't even want black people in their field".

And Meyers argued that Trump's tweets were also created to distract people from other issues, like the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and the effort to push through the Graham-Cassidy health care bill.
