OJ freed from prison, could move to Florida

OJ Simpson to eat steak, get iPhone after expected release from prison next week

Fast forward to 2008, and Simpson was once again back in the spotlight when he was convicted of armed robbery after he led a group of men into a Las Vegas hotel to steal sports memorabilia he claimed belonged to him.

The BBC reports that OJ will now face up to five years supervised parole. After being found guilty of killing Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman in civil court proceedings in 1997, Simpson was ordered to pay a total of $33.5 million in punitive damages to their families.

Tom Scotto, a Simpson friend who lives in Florida, told AP by text message that he was with Simpson after his release.

"We needed to do this to ensure public safety and to avoid any possible incident", Keast said over the phone.

According to the Associated Press, before Simpson's release, prison officials did an inventory of what he wanted to take with him or leave behind.

A Goldman family attorney said the judgment amount has almost doubled with interest over the years to more than $65 million, and he continues to seek payment.

The disgraced star was granted parole in July, and walked from Lovelock Correctional Facility in Nevada. Simpson was picked up by an unidentified associate during the wee hours Sunday morning to avoid media attention.

Bondi released a letter she sent Friday to state Department of Corrections Director Julie Jones, saying that Florida taxpayers should not "foot the bill" for overseeing Simpson's parole.

These state that "You shall not associate with convicted felons, persons who are engaged in criminal activity, or other persons with who your supervising officer instructs you not to associate".

Keast says she did not have any information about where Simpson was headed.

Florida Department of Corrections spokeswoman, Ashley Cook, said her agency has not received a transfer request or documents about Simpson.

But two of his children, Justin and Sydney, also live in Florida.

He becomes eligible for release Sunday (09-01-17), but LaVergne said he doesn't know where or when it will happen.
