U.S. envoy to Japan says military action against N. Korea unlikely

Trump to Visit S. Korea, China, Japan in November

Presidents typically travel to the Pacific region in the late fall because of two global summit meetings held by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, both of which Trump will attend.

Though India is not included in President's south Asia trip, the White House says that President "will discuss the importance of a free and open Indo-Pacific region to America's prosperity and security".

Trump will travel to five Asian nations from November 3-14, including three critical to the crisis over North Korea - Japan, South Korea and China.

He added, as he spoke at the 63 Convention Center in Yeouido in western Seoul, "U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson strongly protested this to South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha".

In a speech to the U.N. General Assembly earlier this month, Trump referred to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as "Rocket Man", said he was on "a suicide mission", and Trump declared he was prepared to "totally destroy" the country if the United States is forced to defend itself or its allies.

The US President has warned North Korea it would face total devastation if it threatens the United States - Mr Kim has in return blasted Mr Trump as "mentally deranged".

On trade, Trump has not carried out his reported intention to withdraw from the U.S.

The Nobel Peace Prize holder is known as an informal adviser to many prominent people, including U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior advisor, Jared Kushner. Trump would seek the cooperation of other countries in the region to tackle the problems created by North Korea. "This is to recognize North Korea essentially as a de facto nuclear state as in the case of India and Pakistan". He hosted the Chinese President Xi Jinping at his Mar-a- Lago residence in the early part of his presidency and met the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the Trump Towers in NY as the president-elect. "Let us concentrate on cooperation and properly manage our differences in a spirit of mutual respect and mutual benefit", he said to Tillerson.

North Korea has conducted a series of ballistic missile launches this year, including two launches over Japan in recent weeks, in defiance of worldwide pressure. Chinese top diplomat State councilor Yang Jiechi has described Trump's visit as of great importance to the bilateral relationship.

"It would be helpful if the President would highlight some trade practices of our partners we appreciate as well as those we most want to see changed", Scissors said.
