With Trump's Approval, The Last Of The JFK Files Can Be Released

Archivist Ken Hawkins looked over files concerning the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in May 1994 at the National Archives in College Park Md

Politico magazine earlier quoted Trump administration and other US government officials as saying the president would nearly certainly block the release of information from some of the thousands of classified files, which the US National Archives is due to make public by an Oct 26 deadline.

Sure to be fodder for conspiracy theorists, the files all relate to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963.

Kennedy assassination experts have been speculating for weeks about whether Trump would disclose the documents.

Trump can withhold the release of certain documents if he believes their release could pose harm to United States intelligence, law enforcement, the military or U.S. foreign relations.

The remaining files include more than 3,000 documents never seen by the public, as well as more than 30,000 files that were previously released with redactions.

In the days leading up to Trump's announcement, a National Security Council official told The Washington Post that government agencies were urging the president not to release some of the documents. "JFK files have been hidden too long". Instead of squashing conspiracy theories, the release of the last files may just exacerbate them. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) of consorting with Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald right before the shooting. Do you think Oswald acted alone Kennedy's death, or was their something darker at play?

'It's great news that the president is focused on this and that he's trying to demonstrate transparency, ' said Phil Shenon, who wrote a book about the Warren Commission.

In a statement on Twitter, Trump revealed he will be allowing the "long blocked" documents to be opened for the first time. Phillips, Morley said, oversaw the agency's operations against Cuban president Fidel Castro and was deeply familiar with the CIA's surveillance of Oswald in Mexico City. The act created a review board known as the Assassination Records Review Board (ARRB) that oversaw the documents' release.

Among those documents was a 1975 internal Central Intelligence Agency memo that questioned whether Oswald became motivated to kill Kennedy after reading an AP article in a newspaper that quoted Fidel Castro as saying "U.S. leaders would be in danger if they helped in any attempt to do away with leaders of Cuba".
