Harvey Weinstein Hired Ex-Mossad Agents to Spy On and Intimidate Accusers

Less clear is whether a similar sabotage campaign might have successfully hindered a previous reporting project by the Times in 2004.

The New Yorker, which in October published an explosive exposé detailing decades of rape and sexual assault allegations against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, published a follow-up story on Weinstein's "Army of Spies" on Monday. "Oh my God", she replied.

Waxman, founder of the entertainment news site TheWrap, has publicly criticized the Times for not publishing the information she collected on Weinstein in 2004. According to the magazine, the goal was to subvert and intimidate his accusers. As Farrow reports, one of the files on McGowan was more than a hundred pages long and included sections like "Past Lovers", "Lies/Exaggerations/Contradictions", as well as information on McGowan's address and personal info.

He said, "To the extent I provided "off-the-record" information to Mr. Weinstein about one of his accusers - at a time when Mr. Weinstein was denying any harassment of any woman - it was information which I would never have allowed AMI to publish on the internet or in its magazines".

"Some of it [is] very, very troubling and some of it, I think, [is] checking out", he said. At least one of these "investigators" would be a former member of the Mossad. "I don't recall the topic".

The New Yorker reports that Weinstein sought the assistance of ex-employees from his movie enterprises to help collect names and place calls. "Everyone lied to me all the time", McGowan said of the past year. He did not respond. Among them was David Boies, who represented Al Gore in his 2000 presidential election dispute with George W. Bush.

From the looks of Farrow's piece, this private investigator's job was to lie to various reporters and other women who would go onto bravely come forward about Weinstein's abuse, in order to gain their trust. And his ability to funnel directives to firms like Black Cube through his lawyers was another mechanism, this time under the guise of attorney-client privilege, through which Weinstein operated largely unchecked.

Weinstein didn't exclusively employ Black Cube, Farrow continues, reporting that "Weinstein also enlisted other journalists to uncover information that he could use to undermine women with allegations".

Weinstein also reportedly asked Black Cube to hire a journalist to "conduct ten interviews a month for four months and be paid forty thousand dollars", as well as report back their findings to the firm, which would in turn relay the information to Weinstein. Among the acclaimed actresses that have leveled these accusations are Rose McGowan and Anna Sciorra, in addition to a number of other women who have made public their interactions with the well-known Hollywood producer. "He thought he was being followed", she recalled.

Boies admitted that if Weinstein's inappropriate behavior continued past 2015, then he bore some responsibility for it. McGowan told Farrow that the persistence of "Diana Filip" among other intimidation tactics made her feel insane, and Annabella Sciorra said it made it all the more hard to finally come forward.
