Page Tells Russia Probe He's `Biggest Embarrassment' to Trump

Carter Page brought up the idea of having President Trump travel to Russia during the presidential campaign according to a closed-door testimony he gave last week

NBC News reported: Former Trump campaign volunteer Carter Page, who has come under scrutiny in the investigation of Russian election interference, told a House committee that he sought permission for a July 2016 trip to Moscow from senior Trump campaign officials, and reported to other Trump officials about the trip when he returned.

Page also told committee members that he told Jeff Sessions, who was then a US senator and is now attorney general, and Sam Clovis, then the national co-chairman of Trump's campaign, that he was traveling to Moscow to make a speech at the New Economic School.

When asked if he had a private meeting with Dvorkovich on that second trip, Page replied: "We did - he stopped by a dinner I went to in December with people from the university".

According to Steele's source, Diveykin told Page the Kremlin had damaging information on Hillary Clinton that they wanted to turn over to the Trump campaign. Jeff Sessions about a trip he made to Russian Federation during the 2016 presidential election.

Steele alleged that Sechin offered Page the brokerage of a 19 percent stake in Rosneft in exchange for getting USA sanctions lifted against oligarchs close to Russian president Vladmir Putin. Democrats have howled about recent news in the Russian Federation imbroglio that appears to contradict Sessions' long-standing claims that he didn't know about the overtures from Russian Federation to people in the Trump campaign.

He continued denials of meeting with those officials, but admitted meeting with a high-ranking employee of Sechin's, Rosneft's investor relations head Andrey Baranov.

Another Trump foreign affairs adviser, George Papadopoulos, last month pleaded guilty to lying to federal investigators about his contacts with Russian interests and his communications with Trump campaign aides.Papadopoulos has been cooperating with investigators in their months-long probe.

Beyond the meetings that Page had during his summertime trip to Moscow, his testimony also provided a clearer look at how much more senior campaign officials knew of his comings and goings. Page then traveled back to Russian Federation after Election Day previous year.

Lewandowski reportedly faced questions from the Senate Intelligence Committee last month, while Hicks was scheduled to meet with special counsel Robert Mueller's team this month.

The two men had a brief interaction at the commencement ceremony, where Dvorkovich also spoke, Page said.

The same report cited an unidentified former campaign adviser who corroborated what Page laid out before the committee last week regarding the trip being approved.

That didn't stop him from traveling to Russian Federation again in December 2016.

A Russian source told Steele that Sechin and Page held a secret meeting to discuss "the issues of future bilateral energy cooperation and prospects for an associated move to lift Ukraine-related western sanctions against Russia".

"The idea there was bearing in mind Barack Obama's speech as a candidate in Germany 2008", Page told House Intel of the May 2016 email he sent to Gordon and to fellow foreign policy adviser Walid Phares. "It's important to remember that Carter Page and George Papadopoulos were peripheral members of a relatively peripheral advisory committee", he said. Sessions has denied he was aware of anyone in the campaign communicating or dealing with Russians who were interfering with the election.

The most common theme in Page's testimony was a relentless pivoting towards the dossier compiled by Steele, which he says has led to death threats.

Page, in his testimony, denied meeting an official mentioned in the so-called Trump dossier as "Divyekin".

That note to the campaign was just a "courtesy", Page told lawmakers last week. The Russia collusion reached the highest levels of the campaign, and the White House is trying to cover-up the facts.
