Paramedics take Palliative Care Patient to the Beach

Members of the Queensland Ambulance Service granted a patient's wish to see the beach one last time

The woman expressed to the pair that she just wished she could be at the beach one last time and that's when the crew went above and beyond.

A moving photograph of the moment, shared online by the Queensland Ambulance Service, shows Mr Cooper looking out at the view with the patient next to him on a bed.

"Sometimes it is not the drugs/training/skills (sic) - sometimes all you need is empathy to make a difference!-Great work Hervey Bay team Danielle and Graeme the Service is very proud of you", the QAS wrote on its Facebook page. The paramedics then made a small detour so the woman could be beside the ocean. She also said she loved the esplanade and the beach and the paramedics asked if she wanted them to take her down by the esplanade and get a look at the ocean, ABC News reports.

"She actually tasted the salt water". After experiencing all this, the patient told them she was at peace, and that everything was "right".

The ambulance staff fulfilled her desire by taking her to look out at the ocean.

The photo has resonated worldwide with close to 47,000 likes, 14,500 shares and 3,400 comments on Facebook in less than 24 hours.

"She could see the pier, Fraser Island right through to Point Vernon", he said.

Instead he scooped up some water in her sick bag so she could put her arms in it.

Tracey Hayes wrote on Facebook: "This is a attractive sentiment and shows that you are definitely the right people for the job you are in, never ever lose your compassion, empathy or kindness". On the day of her wedding her mother collapsed as she had terminal cancer.

"In special cases where end of life stuff is going on. the contact we have is our last contact. we want to feel good about humans and people and the way they're treated and managed so they get a good feeling". Thank you very much!
