Russia Helps Iran Build New Atomic Reactors at Bushehr

UN conference on nuclear energy begins in UAE

He added that Iran would not allow global nuclear inspectors access to the country's military sites, as it was not agreed as part of the deal.

Roughly two weeks ago, President Donald Trump decertified the deal, punting the issue to the Republican-controlled Congress and sparking warnings that the move was "a recipe for disaster".

Now Congress must decide whether or not to reimpose sanctions waived under the nuclear deal by mid-December.

Haley "will continue to press for the most aggressive implementation of the nuclear deal, while also working to move the United Nations toward stronger measures against unsafe Iranian actions that fall outside of the deal, including their missile testing, arms smuggling, and support for terrorism", the had official said.

President Hassan Rouhani, who met with senior officials in his country, said that "the Iranians will respond resolutely to any American attempt to spread despair in our homeland".

"The senators' letter is completely in sync with Ambassador Haley's concerns about Iranian nuclear inspections", a spokesperson representing U.S. Mission told the sources on Monday, several days after the senators had first sent their letter.

"It is the decision of Iran to accept restrictions in return to remove sanctions, but if these sanctions return with other excuses, it will change decision to get out of the meaningless deal", he said, according to the Iranian news agency Mehr.

Prior to the meeting with Amano, Iran's president excoriated US policies before his country's parliament.

A new nuclear power station, including two nuclear reactors, was dedicated Tuesday during a festive ceremony in the southern port city of Bushehr in Iran.

"We believe that without visits to military sites, the IAEA can not make a credible conclusion that Iran is meeting its section T obligations", the senators wrote.

The US has already imposed economic sanctions on various entities of Iran including its powerful paramilitary force IRGC thus making the situation precarious. Such information would provide a clearer picture of how much enriched uranium Iran has on hand.

To the first point, Trump explicitly called out Iran's ballistic missile program, which was once prohibited under a 2010 U.N. resolution but became more ambiguous under the 2015 resolution of the U.N. Security Council endorsing the JCPOA, which terminated the 2010 resolution's language "that Iran shall not undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons" in favor of language saying "Iran is called upon not to undertake" such activity.

"The IAEA can state that the nuclear-related commitments made by Iran under the JCPOA are being implemented", Amano noted, adding that IAEA monitoring would continue to be conducted "in an impartial and objective and stringent manner". "It highlights how the IAEA has been spinning its wheels in Iran, and hasn't visited the sites where Iran is likely to be developing nuclear weapons technology".

There Rouhani said that Trump was looking for an excuse to pull out of the deal, while Trump cited numerous violations of the deal by Iran.
