Oxford Circus Tube station: Police respond to incident

Hundreds of people have been relocated from the Oxford Circus tube station due to reports of gunshots.

British Transport Police said they had a report of one woman with minor injuries received while leaving Oxford Circus station.

The area remains closed, with British Transport Police officers on the scene.

London Fire Brigade said they were called about the incident at 4:43pm, adding that three fire engines and 15 firefighters were at the scene.




Met Police advised those who are on Oxford Street to go into a building and to "stay inside until further direction".

The station, located on Oxford Street which is a destination for shoppers on Black Friday, has been evacuated, according to eyewitness reports. The Metropolitan Police has confirmed its officers are also attending.

Video taken near the busy shopping street shows pedestrians running away from the scene after officers were called in following an accident. Police said they were responding "as if the incident is terrorist-related" but has not said whether they believe it is. Local residents said heavy police presence could be seen. "The station is now closed, please avoid the area at this time".
