Arsenal, Liverpool's six-goal thriller displayed both teams' lack of structure

Arsenal 3-3 Liverpool Festive period starts with a Christmas cracker

There have been 17 goals scored in the 90th minute or later in this match in Premier League history; more than in any other fixture in the competition.

In disarray for 45 minutes and behind to a rare headed goal by Philippe Coutinho, Arsenal were in danger of suffering a pre-Christmas nightmare. While the attacking trio of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alex Iwobi rarely got the ball in space, promptly losing it to aggressive pressing from Jurgen Klopp's men when they did, Wilshere and Xhaka seemed completely out of place in a system neither are adept at playing in - shield the back four, deny the opposition space and counter a counter-attacking side.

Arsenal produced a stunning fightback after a woeful first-half display to overturn a two-goal deficit against Liverpool.

After throwing away another lead, Liverpool now stay in the fourth place, but the terrible defending from both sides indicated that they would struggle for the Champions League qualification if they will not improve that area.

It was Arsenal's third of the night when Ozil capped off a gliding run through a maze of Liverpool bodies and a fascinating one-two with Alexandre Lacazette with a delicious finish. Coutinho, responsible for the initial possession turnover, glanced a languorous header over Petr Cech to give Liverpool a well-deserved lead.

Salah missed a golden opportunity to make it two, as the Egyptian saw an effort saved by Cech before Sadio Mane fired over with the rebound.

The Gunners trudged off to a chorus of boos at halftime and were no better at the start of the second half as Salah was allowed to maraud forward unopposed.

Arsene Wenger's side have also found the net in each of their last 23 Premier League home games, last failing to score in a 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough in October 2016. Roberto Firmino received the ball on the edge of the area from Emre Can.

Wenger admitted his side had been lucky to only be one goal behind at the break. In the second half we played at our level.

"I am always saying I want to win titles here", he said.
