Cubs' bid falls short as Shohei Ohtani chooses Angels

Report: Teams Complaining About Shohei Ohtani's Recruiting Process

Shohei Ohtani is signing with the Los Angeles Angels.

The Angels won 80 games a year ago and fought for a wild-card spot, but fell short.

The club can now pair the 23-year-old Ohtani with two-time American League MBP Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun to make LA's outfield one of the best in MLB. Already this offseason, the Angels have re-signed left fielder Justin Upton, and they may not be done making moves on the heels of this massive win. "He sees this as the best environment to develop and reach the next level and attain his career goals".

Ohtani, who has spent much of the last week-plus in the US visiting a handful of teams, reportedly made his final decision today, according to a statement released by his agent, Nez Balelo, one of the heads of CAA Sports. We were resolved to having a fair, methodical process. "I could just tell he's such a great pitcher through the TV screen", Otani said.

After his unusual courtship, Ohtani will attempt to chart a unique career path as the majors' first regular two-way player in several decades. Representatives of all seven teams met with Ohtani earlier in the week in Los Angeles.

Ohtani is, quite simply, the coolest baseball player in the world.

The Angels will pay the Fighters a $20 million posting fee.

Ohtani will serve a dual role with the Angels, not only pitching but hitting on a regular basis. Ohtani's agent put out a statement saying the prized two-way player had made a decision to sign with the Angels, a surprise victor over Seattle, Texas and several other teams.

The Cardinals also said Stanton had declined to accept a deal to St. Louis.

With this decision, Ohtani ends months-long speculation about where he would end up in the major leagues.

The deal is for one year and $6 million, according to reports.

Fiers wasn't included on any of Houston's postseason rosters, and the Astros didn't offer him a contract for 2018. Los Angeles also has thought about trying a six-man starting rotation, which would allow Ohtani to have ample arm rest after pitching roughly once a week in Japan.

ROCKIES: Catcher Chris Iannetta agreed to a two-year deal. He signed with Seattle for the 2016 season. He had a scary moment in May when a 93 miles per hour pitch by a Pittsburgh reliever hit him in the face.
