Unai Emery to Arsenal: What can the club expect from new manager?

Mikel Arteta could reject Arsenal after talks with Patrick Vieira

Arsenal will appoint Unai Emery as their new manager, according to reports.

Emery emerged as the unanimous choice following a recruitment process in which all candidates were spoken to.

Ex-Gunners captain Mikel Arteta has been heavily linked with succeeding Wenger, whose near-22-year reign ended after the final match of the English Premier League campaign at Huddersfield.

The 46-year-old's appointment has not yet been made official, but the BBC have reported Emery, who recently finished a two year stint at PSG which concluded with a domestic treble, will succeed Arsene Wenger.

Previously he guided Sevilla to three consecutive Europa League triumphs between 2014 and 2016.

An announcement is expected later this week.

After Wenger's departure was announced, the betting odds on Emery replacing him were at one stage as long as 66-1 - placing him behind the likes of former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood. These are numerous most committed Arsenal followers and the discussion throughout the evening had initially been about Mikel Arteta, and concerns about his inexperience, so the Emery bulletins found support.

Arsenal are searching for their first new manager since 1996 with Wenger departing at the end of this season after almost 22 years at the North London club where he won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups.

Arsenal's decision to turn to Emery is a surprise, however, with the Basque not being regarded as one of Europe's elite coaches in the same bracket as Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp or Jose Mourinho.

You'd have thought that by now they would have known exactly what's going on.

Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague told Sky Sports News on Monday: "I am hearing that Unai Emery is in London to hold talks with Arsenal".
