Israeli snipers shoot Palestinian in southern Gaza Strip

A Palestinian protester holds a tear gas canister in his mouth during a demonstration along the border with Israel east of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza strip

"We also urge Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem - and inside Israel - to rise up against the occupation", the authority said in a statement.

U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley lambasted the proposal for discussing "excessive" Israeli force while making no mention of Hamas, the Islamic militant group that rules Gaza.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Rocket alerts sounded in Israeli towns and villages near the border after dark, sending residents rushing to shelters for safety.

The Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted three of four rockets fired on Israel during the attacks. Two more projectiles landed in empty areas.

Israel says its troops were defending its border and accused Hamas of trying to attack under the cover of the protests.

Her father held her white, blood-stained medics' jacket as ambulances and medical crews took part in the procession.

Since protests on the Gaza-Israel border began on March 30, Israeli troops have killed at least 115 Palestinians and wounded more than 13,000 people, including 3,600 by live ammunition, according to the Red Cross.

.

For the first time last Friday, a parallel demonstration was held in Haifa to condemn ongoing Israeli violence against unarmed Gazan demonstrators.

More than 2 million Palestinians are packed into the narrow coastal enclave.

Following the funeral, several Gazans were wounded in clashes east of Khan Yunis, health ministry spokesman Ashraf Al Qudra said. The Israeli army also claimed to have foiled an infiltration attempt on Saturday by a terrorist cell that attempted to get across the border from the southern Gaza Strip. "An additional soldier who was positioned on top of the roof of a nearby building identified the threat to the civilians who stood nearby and, in response, fired at the terrorist".

"The terrorist group Hamas bears primary responsibility for the terrible living conditions in Gaza", Nikki Haley, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said ahead of the vote.

Israel, which has drawn global condemnation for its use of deadly force, says many of those killed were Hamas members and militants trying to launch attacks under cover of the protests.

Riyad Mansour, the permanent observer of Palestine to the United Nations, said at the same press encounter that a decision will be made in a matter of days. During these protests, dozens of Palestinians have been killed, and over 1,000 others have been injured as Israel continues to suppress the demonstrations. It called for "an immediate global response to Israeli humanitarian law violations in Gaza".

Najjar's death brings the toll of Gazans killed by Israeli fire since the end of March to 123.
