North Korea ‘replaces’ military top brass in pre-summit shake-up

North Korea’s Top 3 Military Officials Have Been Replaced Ahead of President Trump, Kim Jong Un Summit

Asked whether the USA maximum-pressure campaign against North Korea would continue, Sanders said that United States policy had not changed and that Washington continued to maintain tough sanctions on Pyongyang.

Moon Chung-in, an adviser to President Moon, said in a recent interview with the Atlantic, that he would like to see the end of the US alliance at some point after the North Korean nuclear threat is resolved, so that South Korea no longer has to take sides between the USA and China. "The world welcomes the remarkable events in the Korean peninsula brought about recently by the outstanding political caliber and wise leadership of [His Excellency] Kim Jong-un".

The three men replaced, Pak, Ri and Kim, are 68, 81 and 77 years old respectively.

The young leader was seen to have been overseeing Kim Yong-chol's US visit last week, as well as monitoring the talks between American and North Korean diplomats to finalize an agenda for the summit, ongoing at the Panmunjom, the truce village at the inter-Korean border.

Pompeo also explained that Japan would extend economic support if the abduction, nuclear and missile issues are resolved in a comprehensive manner and Japan-North Korea relations are normalized, the sources added. "That was a problem during the sunshine period, a lot of misappropriation and malfeasance". Inspections must have complete access to all nuclear related sites and facilities with real time verification of North Korean compliance.

Syria, an ally of the North, has made no comment on the reported plan.

Trump plans a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on June 12, the latest twist in the high-stakes diplomacy over US attempts to eliminate Pyongyang's nuclear arms program.

The announcement came as anticipation mounts for a historic nuclear summit between Kim and US President Donald Trump in Singapore on June 12, following a whirlwind round of diplomacy. "We can go slowly'".

Trump, who had earlier cancelled the summit meeting, abruptly announced that it was back on.

Kim's trip to Singapore, which would be the furthest he will have travelled as leader, poses logistical challenges such as the likely use of Soviet-era aircraft to carry him and his limousine, as well as dozens of security and other staff. Before making a deal or lifting sanctions on North Korea, the White House must commit to the following five principles, they insist.

Meanwhile, US allies in the region are privately pressing the administration to maintain pressure on the North over its regional missile program out of concern that Trump could boost the security of the US at the expense of its partners.

In 1971, Idi Amin famously seized power in Uganda while President Milton Obote was in Singapore for a meeting of Commonwealth leaders.

Ng Eng Hen, Singapore's defense minister, said on Saturday that the country was willing to pay for some of North Korea's expenses, though he did not specify how much Singapore was willing to spend or whether it was at Washington's urging.
