The New Yorker story is written by the magazine's Ronan Farrow.

Many other men accused of misconduct since the dawn of #MeToo stepped aside or were forced from their positions while their companies investigated the complaints against them.

In response to the bombshell allegations, Moonves acknowledged in a statement that he made women feel uncomfortable. All of them worked their way up the ranks and are now managers of our broadcast. Farrow has been key in revealing entertainment and political figures accused of sexual misconduct, including an early piece about Harvey Weinstein that helped set off the Me Too movement.

The allegations involve incidents that go back, in part, more than 20 years, the Hollywood Reporter said, citing sources with knowledge of the matter who it did not identify.

Although Farrow's article was not released until Friday evening, news of its imminent publication sent shock waves through the market.

Les Moonves, chairman and CEO of CBS Corp., in September 2017.

Combining CBS, which owns cable networks including Showtime as well as the CBS TV Network and CBS TV Studios, with Viacom, whose businesses include Paramount Pictures, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and MTV, would have more negotiating leverage with cable and satellite companies, analysts said.

The company's dominance has not always been a sure thing. Shari Redstone is a major shareholder of both media companies, and has been seeking to combine them. Instead, CBS has outperformed its corporate sibling by leaps and bounds. In the late eighties, at the height of her show's popularity, Moonves, who was then at a production company called Lorimar, requested a lunch meeting at a restaurant. He became its chief executive officer and president in 2006 and added the chairman title in 2016.

That made him one of the highest-paid CEOs in the country previous year, according to an Equilar review of S&P 500 companies.

Moonves, 68, has headed CBS Corporation since 2016. It gave a nod to his "stellar reputation" with investors. She believes she was sacked after turning down his advances.
