United Kingdom woman dies after second nerve-agent poisoning

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo meets Japan's Foreign Minister Taro Kono prior to their breakfast meeting in Tokyo Japan on Sunday

Her partner Charlie Rowley, 45, who was also taken ill after being exposed to the nerve agent, remains in a critical condition in hospital. Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, the head of Britain's counter-terror police, said that Miss Sturgess' death is being treated as murder but admitted they still haven't found the vessel containing one of the world's deadliest poisons.

Prime Minister Theresa May said she was "appalled and shocked", and sent her "thoughts and condolences" to the family.

Counterterrorism police are also studying roughly 1,300 hours of closed circuit television footage in hopes of finding clues about the couple's activities in the hours before they became violently ill.

Tests have confirmed that it was the same type of Novichok used to poison the Skripals, he said, and that Rowley and Sturgess "touched a contaminated item with their hands". The British government blamed Russian Federation for the attack.

Wiltshire Police Chief Constable Kier Pritchard said: "I know this news will affect more people than just those who knew Dawn - it will affect our communities right across the county".

Javid said military scientists had not yet been able to determine if the poison was from the same batch used on the Skripals.

Wiltshire Police is now dealing with the second major investigation involving the deadly nerve agent this year, after the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal in March.

A specialist team member in a police protective suit leaves the front entrance of John Baker House for homeless people on Rollestone Street in Salisbury, England, Friday, July 6, 2018.

Salisbury District Hospital's medical director, Dr. Christine Blanshard, said the staff "worked tirelessly to save Dawn".

The Kremlin has denied, as it did after attack on Skripal, any involvement with poisoning of Rowley and Sturgess, which it considers "deeply troubling", and called on British authorities not to incur "dirty political games" by relating Poisoning with case of Skripal.

But he said health authorities continued to assert the risk to the public was low. According to Reuters, the non-profit Nuclear Threat Initiative believes that at one point, Russian Federation had stockpiled "thousands of tonnes" of the nerve agent.

Neighbour Tom Ricks, 31, claims the couple were exposed to the substance at Queen Elizabeth Gardens in Salisbury - a short walk away from where the Skripals were found poisoned in March.

"We will do everything we possibly can to bring those responsible to justice", he said, calling the use of Novichok an "outrageous, reckless and barbaric act".

Sergei and Yulia Skripal were both discharged from hospital in May and have been offered permanent close protection - as well as a possible settlement in the US or Australia.

The police officer added: "The investigation must be led by the evidence available and the facts alone".

The Russian government previously accused British intelligence officials of carrying out the Skripal poisoning as a way to stir up anti-Moscow sentiment.

Last week, United Kingdom officials said the nerve agent used against the couple in Amesbury was of the same variety as the toxin used against the Skripals, but it was not clear if the substance came from the same batch.
