Tiger Woods in contention in final round

Adam Scott

"It's good but it's also disappointing at the same time", admitted Woods after his third round. With birdies on the second and third holes and a par on No. 4, he was at 10-under.

And Woods knew the putt was bad.

Sunday's play will decide the victor of the fourth and final major of the golfing season with the PGA Championship itself moving to a May date for the 2019 season.

Brooks Koepka, taking full advantage of soft conditions and his own casual power, took a grip of the event as he reached the turn in 30 strokes and subsequently opened a five-stroke lead.

"It's tough to beat when the guy hits it 340 down the middle", Woods said.

"I'm going to have to play aggressive", he said.

Stewart Cink enjoyed his first top 10 finish in a major since denying Tom Watson at The Open in 2009 as he birdied the final two holes to return a 67 and close on 11 under alongside Jon Rahm, whose slim hopes were ended by a bogey-six at the 17th.

Follow below for live updates from Tiger Woods' final round. His shocking three-putt for par at 17 Saturday, giving him a deflating par after eying an eagle chance from just under 20 feet, typified his struggles.

Woodland put it behind him and made birdie putts of 13 and 6 feet on 12 and 14, and missed birdie putts of 10 feet and 9 feet on 11 and 13.

"The greens were getting fuzzy, they're getting slow, and I didn't hit the putts quite hard enough, " Woods said.

Birdies were abundant early, a hint that scoring conditions might rival those of Friday, when three players made a run at matching the all-time low major round of 62 by Branden Grace of South Africa from last year's British Open. The birdie at 2 game after a pulled iron left him an awkwards stance for his second, but he managed to spin a wedge to within 10 feet and pour the birdie putt right in the center.

"I thought I played really clean cards, really clean rounds", said Woods, who made eight birdies and three bogeys over the course of the two rounds.

The kinds of excited whispers typically reserved for those peering through the large crowds for a glance at Woods on the course were being used to single out one among those very crowds Saturday.

For the record, Woods didn't hit a fairway on the front nine.

After failing to find a fairway over his first nine holes - going 0-for-7 - Woods changed his shirt following another miss on No. 9, then hit an wonderful shot around a tree from near a cart path to 10 feet to set up a birdie for a front-nine 32. Look at that front nine.

Tiger Woods is still without a win in his comeback, but he is so close to back. Woods was three back and basically out of it.

At 42 years old, Woods' 64 was his best Sunday score in a major in his prestigious career.
