Pakistan army chief provokes India, says people of Kashmir fighting bravely

Imran Khan

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday termed water crisis to be the biggest issue of the country and sought assistance from overseas Pakistanis to help overcome it.

"I want to commend Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar (for starting the dams fund), but this was not his job", Khan said.

"I urge overseas Pakistanis to contribute to this fund".

Mr. Khan also talked about investing in human capital by sending children to schools and building hospitals and system of merit so that everyone is treated equally on the pattern of first Muslim state of Medina.

He said Pakistan was endowed with enormous resources. "We have to start making dams from today".

"Kashmir is the core issue between the two countries and it should be resolved through talks", he said.

Raking up the Kashmir issue, Pakistan Army chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa has reaffirmed Islamabad's support for "self-determination" in Jammu and Kashmir.

In his speech, the army chief emphasised that no individual was above any institution and no institution was above the nation, The News reported.

"More than 70,000 people have been killed and injured due to militancy in the country".

Pompeo stressed the "importance of strong democratic institutions" in Pakistan, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a readout of the meeting Pompeo had with Bajwa.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has appealed to the Pakistanis living overseas to contribute to dams fund, assuring the nation that he would protect the public money.

"Pakistan believed in peaceful coexistence and wanted to promote mutual cooperation with all its neighbours and the entire world on equal basis", he said. India also contests Pakistan's claim that the part of Kashmir administered by India is witnessing a "freedom movement".

The government, he said, would continue absolute struggle in the war against terrorism till its logical end.

He said that Pakistan Army is the only intact and functional institution of the country.

Pakistan observes September 6 as the Defence Day to mark the anniversary of the 1965 war with India. But from 2014, the days is being observed as Defence and Martyrs Day to pay tribute to all those killed in action.
