Saudi Arabia warns against sanctions over Khashoggi case

Trump has said he probably will not cancel a $110 billion arms deal with the Saudi government because that could unnecessarily harm the U.S. The network cited two anonymous sources, one of whom cautioned the report could change.

Turkey's investigation into the disappearance of Khashoggi has reportedly revealed recordings made on his Apple Watch, which synced with his iPhone being carried outside the consulate by Khashoggi's fiancée.

Mr Trump has sent US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Saudi Arabia to meet the King.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump threatened "severe punishment" if it is determined that Saudi Arabia is behind the journalist's disappearance.

Saudi officials arrived in Turkey on Friday after the two governments agreed to a joint investigation into the case, with Saudi officials granting Turkish investigator access to the consulate building, Reuters reported.

Mr Trump addressed snatched questions from reporters over helicopter engine noise at the White House, describing King Salman's denial as "very, very strong".

Asked directly about those reports, Trump said later Monday "I just don't know" and added that he'll have to see what the Saudis say.

Khashoggi, who recently has been living in Virginia and writing columns for The Washington Post, hasn't been seen since October 2, when he entered the Saudi Consulate to handle paperwork for his upcoming marriage.

The press agency also released a statement of support from the government of Yemen, which Saudi Arabia is supporting in a protracted war against Iran-backed Houthi rebels in the Middle East's most impoverished country.

But concern over the disappearance has seen media organisations and a growing number of attendees pull out of a "Davos in the Desert" investment conference set for Oct 23-25, which has become the biggest show for investors to promote Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's reform vision.

The United States and Saudi Arabia are now discussing the measures that can be taken if it turns out journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed by Saudi agents while visiting the country's consulate in Istanbul earlier this month.

The king, Trump reported, suggested it could have been "rogue killers".

OPEC, Russia and other oil producers, such as US shale companies, had increased production sharply since May, the IEA said, raising world crude output by 1.4 million barrels per day (bpd).

Trump calls Khashoggi's disappearance a "terrible situation".

He told CBS: "We're going to get to the bottom of it".

On Sunday, Riyadh angrily rejected political and economic "threats" over the case of the missing journalist and said it would respond to any punitive action "with a bigger one".
