Megyn Kelly ousted from 'Today' show after blackface remarks

Charlize Theron Bears Striking Resemblance to Megyn Kelly on Set of Roger Ailes Movie

Kelly's NBC producers, according to a source who reportedly attended Wednesday's town hall meeting hosted by NBC News Chief Andy Lack, were reportedly "blindsided" by Kelly's on-air comments. The show occupied the fourth hour of NBC's "Today" program, a time slot that will be hosted by other co-anchors next week, the network said.

And yet despite all that, NBC paid her a jaw-dropping sum to ditch the conservative Fox News and take up shop with the network, offering Kelly a reported $69 million for a three-year contract.

"'Megyn Kelly Today' is not returning", NBC News said in a statement.

Bryan Freedman, a lawyer for Megyn Kelly, said that she remains an NBC News employee and "discussions about next steps are continuing".

Although Kelly issued an apology on her show the following day, she was eventually fired. From September 2017 to September 2018, viewer numbers for Kelly's daytime show dropped 13 percent overall from her predecessors'.

In addition to calling out Ailes' behavior and asking a tough question of then-candidate Donald Trump during a GOP debate, Kelly covered Matt Lauer's sexual harassment scandal, and invited one of his alleged victims on her show. "Back when I was a kid, that was okay just as long as you were dressing as a character". "I don't want it to appear that I'm trying to be." she trailed off before telling ET, "I'll just say this to you, I intend to reach out to her, but I have not reached out to her yet".

Kelly caused a furore in the USA media and on social media this week after appearing on a panel show discussing universities pressuring students to wear "culturally appropriate" Halloween costumes. "I think her representatives and management also did her wrong because they put her in a position that was not necessarily suited to her skill set".

She largely floundered with that soft-news focus and a pair of awkward and hostile interviews with Hollywood figures Jane Fonda and Debra Messing backfired with bad publicity. "There is no other way to put this, but I condemn those remarks", he said. Her live show was replaced Thursday and Friday with a pre-taped episode.

"She was trying to spread her wings and do a different type of show", Martin said.
