UB40 Members Distance Themselves From Brett Kavanaugh Following Bar Fight Story

Liz Swisher a former Yale classmate of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh alleges he lied under oath to the Senate Judiciary Committee

As the FBI investigates claims of sexual assault levelled against the controversial Supreme Court nominee in the wake of his Senate testimony last week, one of his Yale classmates is alleging that Kavanaugh's sworn testimony that he never drank enough to black out is not entirely accurate.

The incident happened in 1985 when Kavanaugh, an undergrad at Yale at the time, mistook a 21-year-old man at a local bar for Ali Campbell, the lead singer of UB40 (who had performed in the area that night), and allegedly threw ice and a beer at him, causing injury.

Sure, it was a paraphrased statement rather than a direct quote from Ludington himself, but still, interesting that it made it to the airwaves.

The man next then "took a swing at Brett", Ludington continued, and then they were "two guys fighting - that was all very quick".

The White House did not have any immediate reaction on behalf of itself or Kavanaugh, but directed CNN to comments made by Chris Dudley, a close friend of Kavanaugh's and a former National Basketball Association player.

Ludington is not the first of Kavanaugh's former classmates to come forward and tell the story of a young man who drank to excess in college. For his part, speaking to the officers, Mr. Kavanaugh did not want "to say if he threw the ice or not", the police report said. Dudley, who played basketball for Yale and then went on to play in the NBA, is cited as having smashed a beer glass over Cozzolino's head. "It is from this experience that I concluded that although Brett was normally reserved, he was a notably heavy drinker, even by the standards of the time, and that he became aggressive and belligerent when he was very drunk", Roche said in a statement.

In his testimony to the judiciary committee Thursday, Kavanaugh denied ever blacking out from drinking.

"I will say it again, we drank in college", he said. "Not one time", Dudley said.

"She is not a news reporter", said Times' spokeswoman Eileen Murphy. He also said he never saw Kavanaugh black out.
