The Amazon Kindle is the most popular gift item purchased from the online store this year. Te company sold more Kindle books than physical books. any people got a Kindle for Christmas and ordered a bunch of eBooks.
Strong Kindle sales followed a holiday shopping season during which an ever-increasing number of customers flocked online to make purchases. But despite the high-profile wins, investors continue to wrestle with the stock’s lofty valuation when making investment decisions.
“We are grateful to our customers for making Kindle the most gifted item ever in our history,” said Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos.
“The Kindle Store includes over 390,000 books and the largest selections of the most popular books people want to read, including New York Times Best Sellers and New Releases,” he adds.
One of the busiest days was December 14, when customers ordered over 9.5 million items worldwide, which is a record-breaking 110 items per second. Amazingly Amazon shipped to over 178 countries. In the electronics category the bestsellers on Amazon were Kindle Wireless Reading Device; Apple iPod touch 8 GB; and Garmin nuvi 260W 4.3-inch GPS. In the videogame category the most popular gifts were Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board; New Super Mario Bros; and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
It surely isn’t the device’s design or functionality. Both are closer to the computer aesthetic of the 1980s than today’s digital world. The Kindle may have lots of titles available.
